The American Legion’s motto is “Veterans Strengthening America.”  The members of American Legion Post 228 work together to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our community by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.  The panels below show just some of the activities Post 228 is involved with!



Announcements

Wearing a red poppy honors the fallen and supports the living who have worn our nation’s uniform. After World War I, the poppy flourished across Europe. Scientists attributed this growth to the enriched soils in France and Belgium, which had absorbed lime from the war’s rubble. From that dirt and mud emerged a beautiful red poppy. This flower came to symbolize the blood shed during battle, inspired by the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields,” penned by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D., while serving on the front lines.

Each year, members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies, requesting that recipients make a donation to support veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families with medical and financial needs. This year, American Legion Post 228 will be distributing poppies on
